The Martian Chronicles

Production Ceramics | Spring 2018 | Timeline: 5 weeks

These products are the physical representation of a collection designed based off of Ray Bradbury’s compiled series of short stories, the Martian Chronicles. The collection of tableware and lighting is meant to evoke a beauty and a darkness. The turned forms were inspired be the machined visuals of 1950’s and 1960’s science fiction memorabilia, while the static bowls represent the foreign martian landscape. In this process heavy studio, the focus was on learning technique through design, and allowed for many explorations of wood working, clay working, and slip casting.

“Suppose these houses are really some other shape, a Martian shape, but by playing on my desires and wants, these Martians have made this seem like my old home town, my old house, to lull me out of my suspicions. What better way to fool a man?

- Ray Bradbury, Martian Chronicles
