Tackling Toxic Masculinity
Collaboration: Riya Kesari | Fall 2018 | Timeline: 2 weeks
Gun violence in the united states is rampant, and a large portion of gun based death is at the hand of domestic abuse. Many of these violent reactions are based in a societal expectation for men to be aggressive, prideful, and respected to “be a man”. This project was created as a way to combat those taught perspectives by placing children aged 6-14 into situations that put those reactions into question.
Empaths are given for those responses that are more empathetic and team based. The person with the highest number of these wins the game.
Azuls are given for all responses, however more are given for the more violent responses. You must use them to pay for certain actions, however do not help you win.
The inclusion of an app within the game allows for multiple levels of situational play and a data base of many more cards that would be available otherwise. It also simplifies gameplay, and could source data.
